Indoor Concrete Floors

10/11/2022

Concrete floors have become more popular over the last decade. Modern technology has afforded concrete with almost an infinite variety of patterns, colors, stains and acid etchings. The stamping techniques for concrete can replicate brick, or stone or wood or tile. You name it it is available with today's technology. The durability and versatility of concrete has made it a favorable choice for floorings. It is easier to clean and maintain. With all the pandemic issues the past couple of years many have chosen to go with concrete floorings because it is easier to maintain and sanitize.

Are Concrete Floors Beneficial?
Many have seen indoor concrete floors but mostly in garages, basements and some commercial warehouses. However, with the advent and development of stamped concrete and staining technology it has become increasingly the choice for residential owners. Much like the garage of yesteryear, where concrete was the floor in every house, today many have gone with concrete flooring because of the decorative design it now offers and also the ease of use. Not only is it versatile but durable. It should last the life of the house.

Does concrete flooring look like concrete?
As we mentioned earlier, concrete can be made to look like whatever you want it to look like. There are an endless range of colors  and design available now with staining and stamping techniques. You can have the entranceway look like the Bellagio in Vegas and also have a modern industrial gray tones to match modern furnishings if that is your taste. You could have the wooden floor look to match your outdoor decor or a jewel toned floor that can be the center point of the living space. Concrete flooring can replicate any design you choose.

Is Concrete Floor Easy to Maintain?
All that the concrete floor requires is a dust mop and a wet mop to keep it looking good as new. Nowadays, the ability to keep allergens and viruses in check is a positive reason to install concrete floors. The air quality of your home will be much better with concrete over carpet.

Why is Concrete Better than Carpet flooring?
Concrete is easier to clean when it comes to spills and and will not stain. Liquid or solid spills are no problem to clean up, which does away with any carpet cleaning services.

Germs and bacteria can easily breed in carpets, which affects the overall air quality of your home. This poses health risks to you and your family. Vacuuming often and consistently does help, but carpet requires periodic deep cleaning. On the other hand, concrete is easily cleaned and sanitized with dry and wet mops. The only issue would be resealing ever 3 to 5 years.

Wear and tear is an issue with every type of floors. High traffic areas will wear and age much faster. Whereas concrete is so durable that indoor foot traffic doesn't affect is as it does with carpet.

The greatest advantage is the ability to resurface the floor with different designs, shapes, patterns and colors to match any interior changes that you may make. Carpet does not allow such flexibility and ease of change. You would have to have the carpet entirely removed and reinstalled should you want to change the color of the living space. Speaking of versatility, no more worries of deciding what colors match the carpet but just choose the color you have in mind for your design and resurface the concrete floor accordingly.
